Market Close: Benchmark indices broke the eight consecutive session winning streak with Nifty below 12700 despite Finance Minister fresh stimulus measure.

At close, the Sensex was down 236.48 points or 0.54% at 43357.19, and the Nifty was down 58.40 points or 0.46% at 12690.80. About 1531 shares have advanced, 1117 shares declined, and 185 shares are unchanged.

SBI, Coal India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank and NTPC were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers were Grasim, HUL, Shree Cements, Hindalco and ITC.

Among sectors, bank and metal other indices ended in the green. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose 0.5 and 1.2 percent each.
