Benchmark indices were trading higher in the afternoon session with Nifty around 16900.

The Sensex was up 775.17 points or 1.39% at 56552.02, and the Nifty was up 225.30 points or 1.35% at 16888.30. About 2145 shares have advanced, 985 shares declined, and 91 shares are unchanged.
